Hi, I’m Mrs. G.

Welcome! I’m passionate about helping students with dyslexia and reading disabilities overcome their challenges and discover the joy of reading. As a parent of two grown sons, I understand the struggles families face when their children are not thriving in school. My oldest son, Tom, is a pilot living in Illinois, and my younger son, Sam, is a food science major living and working in northern Wisconsin.

I live in Central Wisconsin with my wonderful husband and our dog, Max. Together, we enjoy the natural beauty of the area, while I dedicate myself to helping young readers unlock their full potential.

Frequently asked questions

What is the Orton Gillingham methodology, and how can it help my child?

Orton–Gillingham (O-G) is an evidence-based teaching method designed to assist children facing reading difficulties in mastering reading, writing, and spelling. This approach is structured and multisensory, systematically breaking down reading and spelling into smaller components like letters and sounds, progressively building upon them.

O-G lessons are personalized for each child and incorporate a range of engaging activities, games, and visual aids to enhance learning.

While only a psychologist can diagnose dyslexia, I can assist by setting instructional goals and offering tailored recommendations for effective intervention.

How do I know if my child needs special education or an IEP?

If your child is struggling to read or keep up in school despite regular efforts, it may be worth exploring an Individualized Education Program (IEP). An IEP is a tailored plan that outlines specific learning goals and services for your child. I can guide you through the process, helping you understand your child’s rights and the steps involved in securing the support they need.

How is this tutoring different from what my child gets at school?

While schools often provide general support for struggling readers, my approach is personalized to your child’s specific needs, focusing on their unique learning style. Using Orton Gillingham, I tailor lessons to target areas where your child is struggling the most. With one-on-one sessions, I can focus entirely on their progress, building confidence and skills over time.

How long will it take for my child to improve their reading?

Each child learns at their own pace, especially when dealing with reading challenges like dyslexia. With consistent tutoring using Orton Gillingham, you can expect to see progress in a few months. However, it’s important to remember that this is a long-term process that requires patience and support, but the results can be life-changing.

What can I do at home to support my child’s reading?

Your involvement is key to your child’s success! Simple activities like reading together, encouraging them to sound out words, and being patient when they struggle can make a big difference. I can also provide you with specific strategies and exercises to reinforce what we work on in our sessions. Together, we can build a support system to help your child thrive.

What My CLients Are Saying

★★★★★

Mrs. G has invested her gifts and time into our daughter (7yo) over the last 6 weeks; we have already noticed significant improvements with her reading skills. We started the summer with high stress emotions surrounding reading sessions, and after working with Mrs. G, there’s now clarity, process and success in those same sessions. She no longer is overwhelmed with the process of reading. We are so grateful for Mrs. G’s dedication, experience and love for teaching. Sophia is now eager to read and showcase her new reading “tools”. She’s a true blessing to our family!”

★★★★★

“My daughter is 7 years old and has struggled with reading to the point where she would refuse to read, give up, or start crying. Since working with Mrs. G, I’ve noticed improvements after the first few sessions. Her confidence in being able to decode words while reading has grown immensely! Mrs. G has been very informative and organized, completed a thorough assessment, created personalized multi-sensory lessons based on my daughter’s needs, and provided materials for our family to work on outside of lessons…My husband and I would recommend Mrs. G to anyone that has a child struggling with reading.”
